ATMs were, without a doubt, one of the best creations in the banking world, due to the convenience they brought to users, as well as the decongestion of branches. The Vinti4 network structure, with ATMs and automatic payment terminals – POS, began operating in Cape Verde in 1999 with the installation of 12 ATMs in the main population centers of the country (Praia, São Vicente, Sal and Santa Catarina).
 
Since then, the entire infrastructure has seen improvements and evolution, both in terms of quality and quantity, and now allows for a wider range of operations at the different terminals. Recognized for their practicality, ease and speed, ATMs play an important role in the daily lives of residents in Cape Verde and get there where people are. ATMs also help to circulate money in the country, guaranteeing access to both consumers and merchants.

Advantages of ATM
Arguably, the biggest advantage of ATMs is being able to access your money at all times.

If before you were required to go to a bank branch by 3 pm to withdraw or deposit money, now with a simple application, such as Caixa Mobile, you can find out where all the Caixa's ATMs are located, which ones are available and choose the one closest to you, at all times. We also highlight the fact that Caixa is the only bank in the country that has an ATM that allows you to make cash deposits.
 
In Cape Verde, ATMs are also used to provide banking services, withdraw deposits, make transfers, pay for services, and check balances and movements. But they also help to improve financial literacy and facilitate access to formal financial services in areas far from urban centers.
 
ATMs are also factors of financial inclusion as they provide services to a part of the population that is not banked and depends on “hard money” for their daily operations.

Although many people use ATMs only to withdraw money, this device has other important features:
 
  • Withdrawal of money - the device is one of the main options for having quick access to money at any time, after all, they have no operating hours’ limitation.
  • Balance consultation - It is true that nowadays the internet allows balance consultation at any time via the mobile phone, for example, with the Caixa Mobile application. However, in some situations where you need to check your account balance and do not have Internet access, ATMs are of great value.
  • Access to bank statement - There are situations in which you need to consult the bank statement for better control of your finances. At these times you can count on this device that makes it easy to obtain a statement.
  • Payment for Services - This feature allows customers to make their payments for services without facing service provider queues.
  • Transfers - The transfer of amounts between accounts, whether of the same ownership or to other people, to the same bank or not, can also be done through ATMs.
  • Deposit - Caixa is the first bank in the country to provide its customers with an ATM that allows them to make deposits (in cash). The deposited amount is validated and credited to the customer's account in real time. This ATM Deposit from Caixa receives bills of 200, 500, 1000, 2000 and 5000 thousand escudos, which must be deposited directly in the receiving drawer and, after validation, the deposit is made instantly in the account.
  • Change of PIN - For greater security, banks offer the possibility of changing the PIN (Personal Identification Number), through the ATM, whenever customers deem it necessary and mandatory when receiving a new Card. Immediately after receiving the Card (Debit or Credit), the corresponding PIN will be sent via SMS*, and for the purposes of its use, it is mandatory to change the PIN at the nearest ATM. *It is important to keep in touch, on mobile phone, so that these transactions can be carried out.
  • Mobile phone charging - This feature allows customers to charge their mobile phone without going to the providers of this service.
  • Checking account information – There are situations in which you need to check your account data, namely the NIB and number of accounts, to carry out some transactions. At these times you can count on this device that makes it easy to obtain this information.
  • Cardless Transactions – Even if you forgot or lost your Vinti4 Card, it is possible to carry out various transactions at the ATM, including withdrawals, balance inquiries, mobile recharge, etc. To do this, first download the Televinti4 app on your mobile phone. Check the steps to perform this operation at the ATM:
  1. Insert the Vinti4 card;
  2. Choose the Other Operations option;
  3. Select the televint4 option;
  4. Check the option to associate TELEVINTI4;
  5. Enter the mobile number you want to associate with the TeleVinti4 service
  6. Enter the telecode (6-digit secret code, chosen by the customer. It will be used whenever you want to carry out any operation through the TeleVinti4 menu);
  7. If the operation is accepted, a receipt will be issued with the result of the operation.
Tips for safe use of ATM
For the safety of users of ATM services, we leave some safety tips:

  • In case you need help, go to a bank employee, never accept help from strangers;
  • Prefer busy places to carry out transactions;
  • Always try to use the same ATM;
  • Keep track of your bank account periodically;
  • If your card has been retained at the ATM, immediately contact the ATM administrator or your branch.
