The Caixa Auditorium played host to the launch of Fintech Islandz Hub on September 27th, representing a significant stride towards financial innovation within Cape Verde.

As the nation's premier establishment solely committed to fostering and advancing the fintech sector, this hub endeavors to serve as a unifying platform for various stakeholders in the financial landscape, facilitating communication and collaboration between various stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, Dr. António Moreira, president of Caixa's Executive Committee, expressed a positive outlook regarding the potential opportunities this initiative could bring to Cape Verde.

“Innovation and mastery of technology are essential for differentiating companies and economies. With the Fintech Islandz Hub we are taking a firm step towards a more digital economy in Cape Verde", he stated.

Caixa, renowned for its longstanding dedication to technological advancement as evident in its STEM program, holds a pivotal position within this partnership. Beyond furnishing infrastructure, the institution is poised to offer vital data and insights to support fintechs in conceiving and executing pioneering solutions. Furthermore, Caixa is receptive to funding innovative solutions that hold relevance for the banking sector.

This partnership involving PROEMPRESA, Cabo Verde Digital, and Caixa is widely recognized as a pivotal catalyst for the economic development of Cape Verde, with a strong focus on advancing the digital economy and fintech sector. Dr. António Moreira reaffirmed Caixa's unwavering dedication to driving innovation in Cape Verde's digital economy, emphasizing their enduring role as a vital partner in this transformative journey.

According to Eng. Antão Chantre, he envisions Cape Verde as a potential beacon of inspiration for harnessing the digital economy to drive enduring growth through open innovation.

“To build a thriving digital economy in Cape Verde, it is essential that large companies share their technological needs with start-ups. This can be achieved through strategic and collaborative partnerships with industry experts, local universities, and technology startups themselves. By adopting the concept of open innovation, we can foster innovation and encourage the development of local companies.”

The move reflects Cape Verde’s ongoing commitment to enhancing its footprint in the African innovation sector. Thanks to the backing of entities such as Caixa, Cape Verdean fintech companies have a bright and promising future ahead.

The ceremony was graced by notable figures, including the Secretary of State for the Digital Economy, Dr. Pedro Lopes, the Executive Administrator of Caixa Económica, Eng. Antão Chantre, and representatives of renowned financial and technological institutions.
