New 200 Escudos note on cotton substrate

Caixa informs all its esteemed customers that following the Decree-Law 56/2020 of July 21, 2020, a new 200 Escudos note on cotton substrate came into circulation on January 8, 2021.
A new 200 Escudos note was created by the decision, of the Bank of Cabo Verde, to standardize the 2014 note in circulation, on cotton substrate. Thus, given the centenary date of birth of the Cape Verdean doctor and writer Henrique Teixeira de Sousa (1919-2019) and the need to reinforce the denomination of 200 Escudos, the 200 Escudos note in polymer was reformulated.
The new note brings on the reverse side, a perspective of the volcano of the island of Fogo, where the remarkable actions of the writer were in favor of minimal public health structures.
With renewed appearance, it incorporates technological advances that provide greater safety and durability, reduce costs and impact to the environment, and facilitates the recognition of integrity and handling by the public.
The new 200 Escudos note is 124 mm x 62 mm in dimension and its orientation on horizontal direction. The dominant color is red, both on the front and the reverse of the note, as well as other bright colors in green, yellow and pink.
On the front of the note, the figure of HENRIQUE TEIXEIRA DE SOUSA, printed in sweet relief, incorporated in the design a piece of the traditional cloth "Panu di terra" and the map of the island of Fogo. The background, printed in offset, is composed of a lithographic microtext, not visible to the naked eye.
The watermark obtained from a portrait of Henrique Teixeira de Sousa, approximately 25.3 cm high, is located on the left side of the front of the note, on an area of approximately one third of its surface.
On the left side of the portrait, immediately below the map of the island of Fogo, are the signatures of the Governor and the Administrator of the Bank of Cabo Verde.
Over the map of the island, a bunch of grapes from the region of Chã das Caldeiras, with the inscription BCV in microtext, printed in relief.
On the reverse side of the note, a view of the FOGO ISLAND VULCANIC POOL, printed in ossfet, as the main element on the reverse of the note, incorporated in the design of a piece of the traditional cloth "Panu di terra". Introduced on the reverse of the note, the security thread is 2 mm thick, rainbow-type fluorescence, magnetic, automatic reading and holds the text BCV 200.
The new 200 Escudos note will circulate at the same time as the current polymer note, i.e. both 200 Escudos notes are valid and should be accepted as means of payment.
The distribution of the notes to the public shall be carried out through the credit institutions.
