Who is considered an emigrant?

Its considered capeverdean emigrant an individual born in Cape Verde, who either kept or not his/her capeverdean nationality, as long as he or she proves his/her permanent residency abroad.

Status of Emigrant:

  • Direct descendants of emigrants up to the 2nd generation
  • Pensioneers and retired people who have been emigrant, as well as their spouses, as long as they receive pensions or other income in foreign currency
  • Widow of an emigrant 
  • Capeverdeans who work at sea at the service of foreign ships

 

Proof of Emigrant Status: To enjoy the benefits established for emigrants (interest rates, tax preferences and benefits), update annually the proof of emigrant status by submitting or sending  to Caixa the following documents:

  • National or foreign passport
  • Work permit and updated residence certificate
  • If you are unable to submit these documents, you must submit a certificate issued by the Cape Verdean diplomatic or consular authorities proving that you live abroad and have been employed for more than a year
